Making its Malaysian debut at a media preview back in January, the Jaecoo J8 is expected to be launched here in the second half of the year. While the J8 has design hallmarks of a Chinese Range Rover, it is sold in China as the Chery Tiggo 9 and the Chery Fulwin T10.
The Fulwin sub-brand is one of the newest under Chery’s umbrella having been established in November 2023. It specializes in plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) and the Fulwin T10 is its latest model which will be launched on 25 July in China.
Recently, Chery announced its newest PHEV SUV set a new Guinness World Record for *breathes in* “the longest distance driven by a plug-in hybrid SUV under a full fuel tank and full battery without recharging”.
According to Chery, the SUV started from Shangri-La, passed through Kunming, Baise, Zhanjiang, and ended at Zhuhai, a journey of more than 2,100 km. The trip took 4 days (17-20 July) and beat the previous record by 300 km.
The Fulwin T10 will be offered with two seating configurations – 5- or 6-seater – as well as front-wheel drive (FWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD) layouts. Three variants are to be offered which are Premium, Luxury, and Flagship with the Premium only offered with 5 seats according to DongCheDi.
Both FWD and 4WD variants have a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine under the hood which makes 154 PS/220 Nm alone. Combined with the electric motor(s), the PHEV system makes 375 PS/610 Nm for the two-wheel drive variants and 610 PS/960 Nm for the 4WD variants.
The electric motors are juiced up by a 34.46-kWh CATL-supplied battery with the FWD and 4WD offering 210 km and 200 km of pure electric range respectively under CLTC ratings. Under DC fast charging of 71 kW, it takes 18 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%.
Meanwhile, the Fulwin T10 has a claimed fuel consumption of 5.75 L/100 km for the FWD variants and 6.8 L/100 km for the 4WD variants.
Depending on the trims, the PHEV SUV is equipped with a 24.6-inch curved screen that combines the instrument panel and central infotainment screen, ventilated and massaging second-row seats, a 50-inch AR-HUD, and Sony-branded speakers.
The Fulwin T10 is offered with a Level 2.5 ADAS suite which includes driver fatigue monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, rear collision warning, lane change assist, and emergency lane-keeping.
While the Fulwin T10 could make its way globally as a PHEV variant of the Jaecoo J8, it is still too early to tell at this point. Jaecoo Malaysia made its local launch last week with the arrival of the Jaecoo J7 which is offered in two variants:
- Jaecoo J7 2WD – RM 138,800
- Jaecoo J7 AWD – RM 148,800
