Tesla employee experience highlights need for more staff training

A Tesla software engineer from Giga Berlin recently shared some thoughts after an experience at a pop-up event in Düsseldorf, Germany. Based on the engineer’s observations, Tesla may need to implement more training for some of its frontline staff. 

Romain Hedouin, a software engineer at Giga Berlin, noted that he recently checked out a pop-up Tesla event at Düsseldorf with his siblings. Based on a photo of the event that was shared online, Tesla seems to have brought a Model Y, Model X, and Model S to the event. Interestingly enough, the Giga Berlin employee observed that no prices for Tesla vehicles were being displayed at the event. 

Even more surprising was what reportedly happened when the Giga Berlin worker’s siblings checked out the Model S. As per the Tesla software engineer, the staff at the pop-up event reportedly asked his siblings to stop playing a video game on the Model S because the vehicle “doesn’t have enough range.” This was a strange comment, as the Giga Berlin employee observed that the Model S still had 335 km (208 miles) of range remaining.

The reported comments of the staff about the Model S’ battery, as well as the apparent absence of vehicle prices at the pop-up event at Düsseldorf, suggests that Tesla may need to implement a more stringent training program for its frontline staff. A well-trained frontliner, after all, would not state that a Model S with 208 miles of range left does not have enough battery to play a video game. 

Of course, the Tesla staff at the pop-up event might simply be looking to discourage younger people from engaging in overly long video game sessions in the display vehicles, which could explain why Hedouin’s siblings were asked to leave the Model S. The reason given by the pop-up event’s frontline staff, however, was just plain false. Fortunately, such issues can easily be addressed by Tesla through employee training programs, so the company can be assured that its team is well-calibrated across the board.
